Here I Go Again

Jiu-Jitsu is back in the State Games again (after not being included for the past few years), and I was waiting until the last minute to decide if I was going to enter, then Danger tagged me on Facebook in a comment about the competition, so I went ahead and signed up. I told him that the only reason I entered was because he tagged me, which isn’t entirely true, but a little peer pressure did help with my motivation, and most people from LBJJC rarely tag me in anything, so it was nice that David included me as a part of the team, especially since he and I both competed in the first ever Cornhusker State Games Jiu-Jitsu tournament back in 2010 (which took place on my 41st birthday!).

When I told my mom and sister that I had signed up to compete this year, their reaction was “What is wrong with you?!”, then when I said I doubted that there would be anyone in my age division, so I would probably have to go against much younger people (like usual), they said “That’s because old ladies don’t do things like that!”. It’s been about a year and nine months since I competed, and after the last one, I said that I was never going to do it again (because I hate competition nerves!), but I guess I still don’t think I’m too old for it yet.

A part of me is already regretting signing up, but that’s pretty normal, because I always freak out about competing. One of the things that stresses me out the most about this particular competition is that my husband won’t be there for moral support, because he’s a volunteer with the CSG Karate tournament, which is taking place on the same day. Joe is usually the person who talks me down when I’m on the verge of having a panic attack, so I will miss him, but this won’t be the first competition that I’ve done without him, and at least I’ll be with my team (and they extended the deadline, so you still have until July 1st to enter! ;).

And I’ve made up my mind, I ain’t wasting no more time, so here I go again…” -Whitesnake
