Jiu-Jitsu is fucking awesome!

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” -Anthony J. D’Angelo

The advanced class at Lincoln BJJ on Wednesday night was so much fun, I don’t even mind that my body still hurts from the ridiculous amount of push-ups, jump-squats, and triangles that Professor Greg made us do! I figured it was going to be a tough one before I even went to class (since several of the advanced students are in competition mode right now), but it was so worth it.

If you don't roll, then you don't know.

Do you even roll, bro?

I really had a lot of good moments during rolling on Wednesday, and over the past couple of weeks in general! I succeeded with several “point techniques” (such as sweeps and passes), I spent more time on top than normal, and I exhibited solid defense. I think some of the little bits and pieces of Jiu-Jitsu are finally coming together for me, and I’m processing and applying new information better than I used to! A couple of my rolls on Wednesday were with dudes who’ve been training for awhile, but who I technically outrank in BJJ, and I felt like my performance actually reflected that. I wasn’t able to submit them, but they also couldn’t submit me, despite being bigger, stronger, and younger! The sharks who I rolled with this past week (Tumbleweed and J-Rad) did submit me as usual, but I think I made them work more for it.

I’m having a hard time finding the right words to express how I feel about BJJ at the moment, but I’ll try to break it down as eloquently as I can, haiku style:

Jiu-Jitsu kicks ass
Jiu-Jitsu’s fucking awesome
Jiu-Jitsu’s the shit
