Sunday and Monday were not my best days of training. It was Throwing Sunday in Ethridge class at the dojo, then we worked on half-guard in the advanced class at Lincoln BJJ on Monday, and I felt a little off on both days. I don’t look forward to throwing class (I would be perfectly happy never doing it again!), but last Sunday was especially stressful for me, because Shayla joined us, and while I was happy to have her there, I was nervous about being thrown by someone new, and I had a hard time throwing her!

Over-thinking. Just another one of my many super powers.

When I was rolling at Lincoln BJJ yesterday, it was as if my brain kept going through a rolodex of techniques, but it couldn’t find what it was looking for. Oh wait, probably no one under the age of forty knows what the hell a rolodex is…maybe I should say that it was as if my brain was searching for a technique, but it kept coming up with “404 error, file not found”. Actually, it wasn’t that I couldn’t think of a technique, but that I thought of too many and I couldn’t settle on one, so it was more like my brain kept opening pop-up windows that I couldn’t shut down! I guess I was just over-thinking.

I don’t believe I lasted more than thirty seconds against anyone during king of the mat from half-guard, and free-rolling didn’t go much better. Do you remember last Monday when I didn’t get submitted by anyone? Well, they definitely made up for it yesterday! My final roll was with Fuji, and he didn’t sub me (although he easily could, just by putting me in side control!), he actually let me pass his guard and mount him. Then he allowed me to try my hardest to choke him, but even with little resistance, I could not do it!

My brain errors were also evident in the kids’ class yesterday, when I accidentally called a couple of the boys by the wrong name. I knew what their names were, but I said the wrong ones! After that, some of the boys tried to mess with me by telling me that I was calling them by the wrong names when I really wasn’t, so I told them that I was just going to call them all “Bob”.

I also tweaked my left elbow on Sunday, and my right one on Monday, but hopefully it’s not going to affect my training. I don’t want to take any time off, because I obviously have a lot of work to do, and Professor Tinguinha is going to be here this weekend!
