California Dreamin’

I don’t usually remember my dreams, but this past week I remember a couple of dreams about Jiu-Jitsu. It might be because I’ve been sick, so I haven’t been training, but my subconscious has!

"I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A., California dreamin' on such a winter's day." -The Mamas and The PapasLast night I dreamt that I had moved to California, and I was training at Tinguinha’s BJJ Academy. I didn’t actually see him there, but somehow I knew it was his school. The only thing I remember happening was that we rolled for a really long time, and I kept getting submitted by everyone. I’m not even good at Jiu-Jitsu in my dreams!

The other BJJ dream was that Marcelo Garcia came to Nebraska, and he trained with us at Lincoln BJJ Center. It wasn’t for a seminar, and he wasn’t even teaching or anything, it was just a regular class, except he was there. I don’t remember rolling with him, but after class someone who I didn’t know came up to me and told me they thought LBJJC was a good school. Hell yeah it is, Marcelo Garcia trains there!

"Marcelo Garcia isn't even that good at Jiu-Jitsu..." -NobodyI think it’s more likely that I would move to California than that Marcelo Garcia would ever have any reason to visit Nebraska. Although I’ve been in Lincoln for over twenty years, I’m not a native Nebraskan, I spent most of my childhood living in warmer climates. Joe and I have talked in the past about moving west, and every time it starts to get cold around here, I long to go. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll actually make up my mind to make a new start, and go to California with an aching in my heart…

The state where ya never find a dance floor
BJJ mat empty.” -2Pac & Dr. Dre
