I’ve been riding a Jiu-Jitsu high this week! Here are some random blurbs about it…
A blue belt from Brazil recently started training at LBJJC. I rolled with Felipe for the first time during the advanced class on Monday, and then we partnered together for drills on Wednesday. He’s close to my size, and grappling with him was a total blast! He tapped me with a straight ankle lock on Monday, and our roll on Wednesday ended in a draw (but he would’ve won on points). It was fun to roll with someone new who has skills, and BJJ Brazilians are like mythical creatures in Nebraska, they’re often talked about, but rarely seen!
When I rolled with The Professor on Wednesday, I was doing amazingly well, and I was starting to think I was actually going to make it through the entire roll without him taking my back, then in a moment of panic, I turned the wrong way and gave it up! When I expressed my disappointment with myself, Greg said “Yeah, you did a lot of good things, but that wasn’t one of them.” It was kind of like thinking you have a chance to come back from a 24-point deficit and win the football game, then you throw an interception on the last play. #huskerfanswillunderstand
During KOTM from half-guard on Wednesday, Professor Greg asked me how Holmes got the underhook so quickly, and I had the perfect explanation “He cheated!”. Unfortunately, the lie detector test has determined that was a lie.
Speaking of KOTM from half-guard, I should apologize to Conan for trying to cause him as much pain as I possibly could with my crossface, it wasn’t very ladylike. Then again, he deserved it, because he literally crucifies me every chance he gets, and that’s no way to treat a lady!
Lastly, Ginger Snaps must possess magical powers, because after I wrote a post about wishing him away, at the end of the advanced class on Monday, the people next door took down and hauled off wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man! To test the theory that whatever I wish for on this blog comes true, I’m going to wish that I could submit all of the colored belts. Even if it doesn’t come true, I’m happy that they are submitting me less often than they used to, and lately I’ve been feeling like I’m really starting to get the hang of BJJ!

Gonna keep on tryin’, ’til I reach my highest ground.” -Stevie Wonder
