At the end of the advanced class on Monday, Professor Greg announced that his Professor, Mauricio ‘Tinguinha’ Mariano, will be visiting Lincoln in early November for a seminar and belt testing! The last time he was here was in July of 2013, which was just a few months after Lincoln BJJ Center first opened, and it was also when I tested for my blue belt.
Things have changed at Lincoln BJJ since then. We now have a kid’s program, and there are many more adult students than there were last year. Most of our current white belts weren’t even training yet when Tinguinha was here, so this will be the first time they get to meet him!
The last time Tinguinha came to Lincoln, I was super nervous about testing in front of him, but he was an incredibly nice guy, and it was an amazing experience. I have no idea if I’ll be testing for a stripe this time around, but I’m really not nervous about it, and it’s all good either way.
When I think back to where I was when I tested for my blue belt, it’s obvious to me that I’ve come a long way under Professor Greg’s teaching. Everything about my Jiu-Jitsu has gotten better, from my technical understanding to my practical application. I’ve probably improved more in the last year and a half at LBJJC than I did in all four previous years put together, and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to get some more top quality instruction from Professor Tinguinha!
