Training Jiu-Jitsu has been life-changing for many people. It’s granted confidence to the insecure, it’s helped victims feel empowered, it’s pushed introverts out of their shell, and it’s made athletes of people who were not athletic. Actually, those were just some of the ways that Jiu-Jitsu has helped change my own life.
All of the ways that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu improves lives can’t be seen, but in the case of one of my bros from Lincoln BJJ Center, a picture is worth a thousand words! Brian Rivera (Barber Brian/Brooklyn Brian/Sweeney Todd) started training at LBJJC seven months ago, and since then he has lost a total of 75 pounds! It’s been awesome to witness his transformation, but all of the credit shouldn’t go to Jiu-Jitsu. BJJ is just the tool for change, it’s you who has to do all the hard work, and Brian has worked relentlessly to get where he is today!
Change often takes toughness, because it can be painful journey, physically and mentally. I applaud Brian, not only for his weight-loss success, but for his commitment to Jiu-Jitsu. He’s a great example of the power of BJJ!
