Word Nerd

I know technically I’m not supposed to capitalize words like jiu-jitsu, karate, and judo, unless I’m using them in a formal name, such as Lincoln Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center. I followed that rule when I first started this blog, but at some point I decided I just prefer the way they look with capitals, so I began capitalizing them. I’m such a rebel!

My addition of extra caps where they’re not needed might also be a response to the dying out of capitalization. Many people on social media don’t seem to care for it, and I’ve even witnessed this phenomenon on blogs.

if i go to a blog and it looks like this, their is no way im going to read it. not a chance in hell.

Yes, I know I used the wrong form of “there” in the previous paragraph, that was to illustrate another one of my pet peeves. I used to think that my ability to spot misspelled and incorrect words was a gift, but now I’m starting to think it’s a curse to be a word nerd!

It is really hard to hit the shift key, so I understand why some people don’t bother with capitalization, but I, for one, would like to keep the capital letter alive. If that means I have to break the Rules and use Capitals on words that don’t Need them, so be it! To my eyes, too many capitals are better than none, BUT ALL CAPS IS THE WORST OF ALL. That’s just straight Capital Punishment!

Theiyr're: Take that, grammar police!
