I trained Jiu-Jitsu on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and I think the highlight of the three days was when I submitted my husband during Ethridge class! No, that is not an April Fool’s Day joke, I really did tap Joe out for the first time in…forever. I suppose I should disclose the fact that I started out the roll on his back, but that still doesn’t mean that the RNC I got on him was a given!
The other highlight of the last few days of training has to be when I submitted The Professor with an electric chair! Okay, that one was an April Fool’s joke…and not even a believable one. The actual other highlight was before class yesterday when I succeeded in standing up on the exercise ball for the first time ever! It was only for a second, but it’s a start.
The beginning of April marks five years that I’ve been training Jiu-Jitsu, and at the end of the month is the first anniversary of the opening of Lincoln BJJ Center. Five years ago I was a black belt in Karate who decided to go to Jiu-Jitsu class at the dojo, because I knew nothing about ground defense, and my Jiu-Jitsu journey has been a roller coaster, so if I knew back then what I know now, I never would’ve gotten on the ride! That’s also a joke, I don’t regret one second of it, and I would gladly do it all over again.
Seriously, does anyone have a time machine I can borrow so I can go back five years and start Jiu-Jitsu all over again? I bet I would do a much better job this time around! One thing I would definitely do is submit my husband more often while I still could, before he learned too much.
