It was announced that Lincoln BJJ Center will have a belt promotion ceremony at the end of this month. We haven’t had a formal testing since Tinguinha came down from California last July, and that’s when us students who had previously trained at the dojo tested for our belts. Even though some people had been training longer than others, and Greg considered skipping belts for them, he decided that we should go through all of the colors, so everyone (who was ready and passed the test!) promoted to blue. None of us have stripes on our belts yet, except for Conan (who was awarded two stripes on his blue belt that day). Greg told us that other than for white belts, our stripes would not just be given, we would have to test for them.
However, the recent announcement didn’t exactly say we would be testing, just promoting: On Saturday, March 29th 2014, Lincoln BJJ Center will have a belt promotion! The usual schedule will be replaced with: 11:00am-12:30pm-Special, all-school (all ages!) training session. 1:00pm-2:30(?) Belt Promotion Ceremony.
So, I don’t really know if that means there will be an actual testing, or just training and promotions, but our last belt ceremony only took about a half hour, so there must a lot of people moving up if it’s going to take three times that long to promote everyone! Either way, I’ll probably find out what’s going on soon enough, and I’ll personally assume I am not testing, unless someone tells me otherwise.
What I’m most excited about is that it’s going to include the kids, and I’m happy to see them promote for the first time! Our youth program only started six months ago, but just like the rest of Lincoln BJJ, it’s growing fast. Brooklynn was the first student to join the 10-15 year-old class, and she’s the reason I started attending it. She came in with previous Judo experience, and she still wears her Judo orange belt to class, so I’m hoping she promotes, because it would be awesome to see her in a BJJ belt!
Since I think you should know your lineage, I’m including ours here, for anyone who might be interested. I’m excited for everyone who is being rewarded at the end of the month for all their hard work at Lincoln BJJ!
