My back has been sore for over a month, but I’ve been training as usual (because it wasn’t bothering me enough to stop) and it’s seemed like it’s been getting better. Even though we’ve been working on back attacks at Lincoln BJJ for the past couple of weeks, I haven’t had too much of a problem with it, so I hoped I was on the mend. Then when I was rolling during class on Monday, I was slammed onto my back pretty hard, and now it’s killing me.
It’s been my lower back that’s been giving me the most problems recently (which may or may not be due to also hurting my lower back when I bruised my tailbone at the BJJ tournament last month), but before that even happened, after Jiu-Jitsu class one day, I discovered a sore swollen lump directly on my spine, right below the base of my neck. All signs point to it most likely being a bulging disc, and it’s still there, but it hadn’t been hurting very much, so I happily thought it was going away. However, when I got slammed during class on Monday, I landed directly on the lump, and now that is what is really bothering me.
So, it looks like I’m going to have to go get my back checked out to figure out what’s wrong with it. Hopefully it will be something I can fix with stretching or whatever, and not anything too serious. I especially hope it’s not going to cause me to miss training, because I’m not a bit interested in taking any time off! This blog will take a decidedly sad turn if that’s the case.
My husband- “You know, you look older when you come home from Jiu-Jitsu class.”
Me- “I should kick your ass for saying that, but…oh, my aching back!”
