This endless cold finally seems to be going away, but the lump on my back isn’t! After some internet research, I’ve self-diagnosed it to either be a minor bulging disc, which will hopefully heal on it’s own, or a tumor, which will probably kill me. Either way, it didn’t bother me too much during BJJ class yesterday.
I had taken the past week off to give my back a rest, but it didn’t make much of a difference, so I figured I may as well train and see how it went. I didn’t notice it at all when I was rolling, but it did hurt during some of the warm-ups, such as side-rolls, because I had to roll up on the lump. Since it’s just below the base of my neck, the most painful thing was the neck exercises, but that’s always the case for me. I think it’s funny that when I go to the kid and adult classes back to back, like I did yesterday, I do about 300 abdominal exercises, but the two sets of neck exercises that comprise about three minutes of total class time are what really kill me!
After class, I did notice more pain than normal in my neck, back, and shoulders (but that might also have something to do with the fact that we worked on guillotines!). It feels like the swelling from the lump is pulling on the muscles surrounding it, so everything is tight and sore. I’ve just been trying to stretch it, and using heat, ice and ibuprofen to combat the pain and swelling. I figure if it was a serious injury, it would hurt a lot more than it does, so I’m taking a “wait and see” approach, but if it continues to be a problem, a trip to the chiropractor might be in order. This pain in my neck is a pain in the neck!
