Break on Through

So, you know how just a couple of days ago I said I hoped that someday I would be able to say that I rolled with The Professor and he didn’t choke me? Well, believe it or not, that day was actually yesterday! I had the honor of rolling with Greg in the advanced class again, and he eventually took my back, tried to bow and arrow, then RNC me, but he did not submit me! Of course, we only rolled for five minutes, and if we’d gone another minute or two, it probably would’ve ended differently.

"Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free." - Jim MorrisonAnother unusual thing that happened in BJJ class yesterday was not only did I get submitted just one time (by Holmes, with an arm triangle from top half-guard), but I actually submitted someone, in the advanced class, by surprising him with an armbar from scarf hold. I was also able to sweep The Hulk yesterday, and I even held him in neon belly for a little while!

It’s crazy because I went for years in Jiu-Jitsu feeling like I was on an endless plateau, and now I feel like I’m getting better at literally every single class! I think I might be having a breakthrough moment, caused by an increase in my perception.

“If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.
For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern.” -William Blake
