No Remorse

Here’s a synopsis of how the rotating up, down and out king of the mat from closed guard went for me in the advanced BJJ class yesterday:

  • My guard was passed.
  • I was swept.
  • My guard was passed.
  • I was swept.
  • My guard was passed.
  • I got to half-guard, then I was swept.
  • My guard was passed.
  • I was swept.
  • My guard was passed.
  • Etcetera…

At least I didn’t get submitted! Or I don’t remember being submitted, I apologize to anyone who may have submitted me and I forgot. I also didn’t submit anyone, but that’s not unusual, especially in the advanced class.

Of course I’m being a little silly about this, because I don’t really think of my training in such black and white terms. If I did, I probably would’ve quit a long time ago.

I saw a Rickson Gracie quote on Facebook the other day that resonated with me, and the last part said “Sometimes, you don’t have to win. You cannot win. But that has nothing to do with losing.” I may not have “won” a single round yesterday, but I didn’t lose a thing.
