I’ve competed a fair share in the past, but I haven’t done a tournament for over a year, and I wasn’t sure if I even wanted to compete anymore, because it totally stresses me out! Lately I’ve just been enjoying training, and not having to worry about competition, then a couple of weeks ago I saw a flyer for the local Victory Grappling Championship coming up in December, and I felt a little spark in my belly, so I thought well, maybe…
Then last week in BJJ class, The Professor brought up the upcoming tournament, and he asked if anyone was thinking about entering. Greg said he’s planning to get back into competing himself, but right now his first priority is Lincoln BJJ, so he’s not going to enter this one, but he wouldn’t mind if some of us students did. He also said he’s thinking about starting a competition class on Saturdays, and it seems as though quite a few people from the advanced class are planning to compete, which has increased my own interest.
They were even trying to talk The Hulk into competing (who I don’t believe has ever competed in BJJ, but he’s often the king of our mat), and I don’t know if they were successful, but since Adam said he’s jealous that I keep getting black eyes and he doesn’t, maybe I can entice him into entering by offering to give him a black eye if he does! However, since I’m personally still on the fence about it myself, maybe I’m not the best person to try to convince him.
So, I guess if Lincoln BJJ Center is going to hit the competition scene for the very first time (with or without Adam and I), then we need a team name! When we were back at Roseberry’s we were “Team Jiu-Jitsu Fighter”, but since we have a new school now, then I think we should probably have a new name. The only suggestion I’ve heard so far came from The Doggfather, who said we should call ourselves “Team O.G.”, Original Grapplers!
