There are soon to be some major changes in the Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan Lincoln dojo. After over forty years of teaching martial arts in Nebraska, John Roseberry-Shihan is moving to Virginia, to be closer to his family. A few of the senior students in Lincoln will be taking over the dojo, but Shihan isn’t retiring completely, he and his son Tim are planning on opening a new dojo, once Shihan gets settled in Virginia. That school will then become the hombu dojo for the Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan Organization. There is a new website for the Lincoln dojo, and the old website (of which I am still the webmistress), will now be focused on the Budo Organization. Shihan will still be affiliated with the Lincoln dojo, he is our Hanshi, but he will no longer be involved in the operation. Of course, he will be flying in for events such as the Midwest Convention, so we haven’t seen the last of him yet!
Shihan has been talking about moving for a few years, and I think most of us in Lincoln didn’t really believe it would ever happen, but at 78 years old, he has given most of his life to his dojo family, and we are glad that he will now be able to spend more time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He will be greatly missed, but he’s leaving behind an awesome school, with dedicated teachers, which he spent many years building, and he will always be a part of.
We will be sending Shihan off in style with an epic (according to Eric Schafer!) class/party on Friday, September 13th, for anyone who is interested in attending. Yes, that is on Friday the 13th, but don’t be scared, homies, Shihan would love to see everyone there!
