Last Friday I found out that our blue belt tests at Lincoln Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center are going to be conducted privately, with only two students testing at a time. We were told to chose a partner and set up a time to test, so I asked My Mentor Mike to be my partner, and thankfully he agreed! We will be testing together this Friday at 3:15 pm.
It’s going to be a lot different than when I tested for my blue belt at the dojo. On one hand, there’s no chance of being able to hide in the crowd, but on the other hand, it’s nice that no one else will be watching me test! I feel comfortable with Mike, and instead of being terrified about testing, and worrying about my performance (especially compared to Mike!), I’ve decided to be grateful that I have this opportunity. I’m lucky to be able to do what I love, and passing the test would just be icing on the cake.
During Ethridge Jiu-Jitsu class at the dojo on Sunday, Amy told me to bring my BJJ blue belt testing sheets, and she had me practice almost all of the requirements. I had fun, because I got to repeatedly sweep and submit Joe, and he didn’t get to do it back to me (at least not until we rolled at the end of class!). It was good practice for testing, and I felt confident with most of the techniques. Then in BJJ class last night, Greg went over a couple of them that I wasn’t sure about, and now I’m actually starting to believe I can do this. Besides, Greg said he has faith that we’re all ready to test, so who am I to doubt him?
What I’m looking forward to most of all is on Saturday, after the testing is all said and done, Mauricio ‘Tinguinha’ Mariano will be conducting two seminars at Lincoln BJJ Center, and I can’t wait! They were originally supposed to be only for LBJJC students, but yesterday Greg said they’re opening them up to the public. I don’t know how many slots are left, but you can check out LBJJC on Facebook for more info if you’re interested. Our belt promotion ceremony will also take place on Saturday, so it’s going to be quite a day at Lincoln BJJ!
