Self-fulfilling prophecy

It’s still early into my “be awesome because I think I’m awesome” experiment, but so far it’s going extremely well! During Jiu-Jitsu class yesterday, Conan took the white belts away (presumably to make them memorize Conanisms such as “Don’t try to go through the mountain, go around the mountain.”, and “Rolling is where the rubber meets the road.”), and Ray worked with the colored belts on knee bars, more specifically we worked on crazy takedowns into knee bars. Normally I would have been freaking out thinking something like “OMG, I’ve never going to be able to figure this out, it’s way too complicated!” and then in a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of way, I wouldn’t have been able to figure it out. Instead I just thought to myself “I can do this, because I am awesome!”, and it actually worked! I had almost no trouble understanding or executing any of the techniques. I also remembered that about two years ago I had seen (but not practiced) one of the things we worked on. Ray was teaching it to Conan, and I happened to film it.

I’m so excited because I really feel like I am performing Jiu-Jitsu on a whole new level. I can tell that my grappling is vastly improving, and I accomplished something yesterday during open mat that I have never been able to do before! The pieces of the puzzle are coming together, and I’m seeing the big picture. I love the way it looks through awesome-goggles!
