I just signed up for the Cornhusker State Games. I’m competing in Karate, Jiu-Jitsu and Judo this year. I must be a crazy person! Karate and Jiu-Jitsu were a given, but I’ve never done a Judo competition before. People have been telling me that I should do it, so I decided to give it a shot. I think I have enough knowledge to not make a fool of myself, at the very least. I will admit that part of what made me decide to go for it was the fact that I randoried with a Judo black belt yesterday, and when he tried to throw me, I counter-threw him and put him on his back! I hope he wasn’t taking it easy on me.
The only thing I’m really worried about is hansuko-make. I’m afraid that I will break one of the many Judo rules and be disqualified, especially if the fight goes to the ground. I know I’m not allowed to cross-face, but other than that I don’t really know what is and isn’t allowed in a Judo match. I suppose I should find out before July 17th.
I also hope I don’t get confused as to which competition I am fighting in at the time, and start choking Karateka and kicking Judoka! However, it does feel pretty cool to be competing in multiple martial arts. I’m pretty sure I am the only person from the state of Nebraska who will be competing in all three tournaments (yes, that is a challenge ;) I’m going for a Triple Crown, baby!
